A huge four days were spent in Sydney last weekend for the 2014 Canon AIPP Australian Professional Photography Awards (APPA) where the best of the best of Australian, New Zealand and International Professional Photographers choose their four best images to be judged by a panel of their peers over 3 massive days… over 750 photographers entered nearly 3000 images. To say it was a big weekend would be an understatement.
I look forward to this time every year, certainly not so much for the nail biting stress of having your images judged and critiqued by the AIPP's best - but to be able to immerse yourself in a room brimming with some of the most beautiful, quirky, emotional an awe-inspiring prints; you can only walk away more inspired than ever to keep shooting - bringing your ideas to life and 'just doing it'.
I caught up with old friends, made many new ones and celebrated one of the most successful years WA has ever had at the National Awards. I'm pleased to say I came away with four awards from my four prints; a Gold, Silver Distinction and two Silver Awards. Even more stoked to be announced on the Gala Awards Dinner as a Runner Up Finalist for the 2014 AIPP Australian Creative Photographer of the Year !
I must thank the people who made my portraits possible; Maureen who brought my portrait with the heart to life; Mike for strapping on the straight jacket at RPH; my little mate Cole for holding that Bolex camera for so long... and Kali and Paul for having such a beautifully arranged bridal table at their wedding : ) A huge thank you also to Ben and Trev from TeamDigital and Bruce from Epson for their continued backup and support.
Congratulations to my good mates from WA, Kirsten Graham from Compose Photography for taking out the 2014 AIPP Creative Photographer of the Year - and James Simmons of James Simmons Photography for not only blitzing the category and winning the 2014 AIPP Wedding Photographer of the Year, but then taking out the big one - The Canon 2014 AIPP Australian Professional Photographer of the Year! Amazing accolades for two top people who have made their State proud! You can check out all of this years Category winners here.
Here are the four images I entered this year. Bring on 2015!
